Chelsea: Martinez 'the Rooney alternative'

FC Porto striker Jackson Martinez is understood to be top of Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho’s list of alternatives should he fail to bring Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney to the club this summer.

The Colombia international was in outstanding form for the Portuguese outfit last term scoring 26 times in 30 league games.
The 26-year-old has recently refused to rule out the possibility of a move away from the Estadio do Dragao this summer and has been receiving interest from the Premier League with Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United and Liverpool also thought to be in the chase for his signature.
Chelsea's Mourinho has already had two failed attempts to bring United’s Rooney to Stamford Bridge during the current transfer window and it is believed the Portuguese is lining up a £40 million final bid for the England international.
However, SportsDirect News revealed last week the Premier League champions will not be selling the striker to an English rival.
Mourinho has not given up hope of landing the United forward but admitted this week he has other targets and a Stamford Bridge source has now told us that Porto’s Martinez is at the top of his list should he fail to convince United to sell Rooney.
The Porto forward has a £34 million release clause which will not put the Blues off considering the price they will go to in order to sign Rooney.
