The Mirror are reporting that the midfielder must request a transfer if he hopes to move off the Chelsea bench despite Mourinho’s insistence not to sell the player.
The Spanish international has one eye on Brazil for next years World Cup tournament, and it is clear he will not be a regular under the newly re-appointed Blues boss. Naturally speculation has since gained momentum that Chelsea’s Player of the Year could depart to seek regular Premier League action.
Arsene Wenger has confirmed that he is interested by the possibility of Mata being on the market, and now reports are suggesting that the former Valencia midfielder must take ‘Mata-rs’ into his own hands and push for a move, otherwise he could risk playing a very bit-part role with new £30million signing Willian also reducing his chances of game time.
The versatile attacking midfielder has been overlooked for Spain’s latest squad as well as for their last friendly, however an injury was a factor in his initial exclusion. But with Brazil 2014 on the horizon, Mata will want to be playing as much as possible to have any chance of making the stacked Spanish national team.
According to the report, Arsenal could pay around £30m to land him from their London rivals which will help to slightly reduce Chelsea’s huge wage bill.
It all seems very strange that Willian was brought in when Mata has been such an instrumental figure at Stamford Bridge since his arrival, they have an insanely stacked midfield and for that reason there is the slight possibility that a deal can be done with Arsenal.
Playing in a World Cup is such a huge honour for any player, let alone a Spaniard who has a real chance at winning the tournament, and for that reason the Gunners could have a genuine shot at landing the player who almost joined them two years ago.
