After not playing with a recognized striker against Manchester United, Jose Mourinho has cast fresh doubt over the future of Fernando Torres saying that he is not worth the £50 million the club paid for him.
Chelsea struggled as they went forward against United last night as Torres sat out of the clash until the last 25 minutes and afterwards Mourinho lamented the hefty price tag on Torres.
“It is not really £50million [Torres’ value], maybe it is twenty and a half,” Mourinho was quoted in the Metro.
“He scored the goal that won the Europa League. That means some millions.
“He scored the goal against Everton that put Chelsea in the Champions League. That also means some millions.
“He is doing his job. He did it again.”
Torres, Demba Ba and Romelu Lukaku were all on the bench at Old Trafford, with Mourinho preferring to opt for a fluid front four of Eden Hazard, Oscar, Kevin De Bruyne and Andre Schurrle.
